Why We Are Needed

Why are we desperately needed?

Generally speaking, people with learning disabilities in Ghana tend to live on the fringes of society, with most of them often reduced to begging or being kept away from the public eye by their families. They are often the victims of stigma and rejection and have few rights. The passage of the Disability Bill was a bold step taken by the government.

Statutory bodies and NGOs as well as international communities have tried to deliver some services that these people need but there are huge gaps which need to be addressed. Their health needs, day-to-day services, social care issues, accommodation issues and awareness of their plight have not been given the priority necessary to improve their quality of life.
