Our Objectives
To ensure DFoG achieves its mission and provides comprehensive services to its users, the following main objectives have been developed:
- Mobilise learning disabled people and their carers to form groups and organisations for their benefit.
- To have the right to services which ensure dignity, community participation and opportunities to promote individual development, and to have choices, skills and, subsequently, independence.
- Influence policies and legislation to benefit the learning disabled in order to help improve on their social, health and economic situation through lobbying for awareness of their disabilities, support for carers and empowerment, in order to promote social inclusion and eliminate social exclusion which, subsequently, will promote independence.
- Improve upon the management and implementation of DFoG programmes through training in identified areas.
- Promote and influence the delivery of services to learning disabled people through networking and liaison with government and international charities and other NGOs.
- Raise awareness on health and social needs, and on the rights and potential of the learning disabled in order to educate and help change society's negative, superstitious and insensitive attitudes and behaviour towards them.
