Mission & Membership
DFoG stands for The Disablement Foundation of Ghana. It aims to be an umbrella Non-Governmental Organisation to provide services for people with learning disabilities.
Our Mission
DFoG was formed in 2005 to provide Health and Social Care and to raise awareness of learning disability in Ghana. In doing so it aims to create a unified voice for DFoG in order to advocate for equal opportunities, involvement and participation in policies, planning and implementation of disability programmes in close cooperation with the government of Ghana, as well as with NGOs, international communities, relevant bodies of the UN and the general public.
Our Membership
DFoG has coordinators in the United States of America, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. DFoG is an umbrella organisation which includes professionals who work in areas such as Psychiatry, Medicine, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Social Work/Care Management and Support Work. Support Workers provide services directly to disabled people, whilst Care Coordinators support Carers by assessing their needs and advocating. They also provide information and educate carers on health and social issues.
Trustees
The trustees make decisions and monitor the day-to-day running of DFoG. Each of the trustees have their respective responsibilities as follows:
- Director
- Director of Health
- Director of Social Care
- Director of Skills and Vocational Training
- Carers Coordinator
The Secretary, who is not a trustee, serves as the Chief Executive. This makes up the executive body of DFoG, which manages all the programmes, implements its decision and takes care of the day-to-day running of the organisation. The Board of Trustees also has a Chairman.
